Bahnen der Stadt Monheim (BSM)

About Bahnen Monheim

Bahnen der Stadt Monheim (BSM) is a mobility provider with a clear focus on innovation and customer service. Monheim is a town with around 45.000 residents and is located between the two big cities Cologne and Duesseldorf along the river Rhine.

Residents of Monheim can use public transport for free which is fairly unique in Germany and demonstrates how much the town and BSM want to promote and advance public transport in the region.

Having 5 autonomous bus shuttles in our fleet is another proof of the pioneering spirit of BSM. These buses run since 2020 (mostly autonomous, with a safety operator on board) and are powered by electricity. They serve a 2 km circuit connecting the old town of Monheim with the central bus station.

BSM is member of the two biggest transport associations within the federal state of North Rine-Westphalia: the VRR (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr) and the VRS (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg).

Together with 2 other transport providers (Rheinbahn AG, Düsseldorf and wupsi GmbH, Leverkusen) BSM operates a bus network of 16 routes and our buses travel a total of 2.4 billion km per year. With 45 conventional buses and 5 autonomous buses we carry more than 5 million passengers per year and serve nearly 500 bus stops.

150 employees work passionately to provide innovative end-to-end public transport to the residents, tourists, commuters and local business community of Monheim.
