The Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv)

The rnv is one of the most important mobility providers in the European Metropolitan Region Rhine-Neckar which is located in south-west Germany. The company was founded in 2005 by five formerly independent municipal transport companies in the cities of Mannheim, Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen. The region played a pioneering role here, as the rnv was the first municipal transport alliance of its kind in Germany. The rnv operates light rail and tram lines in the three cities as well as the bus lines.

The approximately 207-kilometre-long rnv rail network is the largest coherent metre-gauged network in Germany and runs through three different federal states. Part of this network is licensed as a railway. In addition, the rnv operates numerous bus lines with a total length of more than 450 kilometres, which ensure the connections to the tram and railway lines. With more than 2,200 employees, 190 trams and 126 buses, the rnv ensures mobility for the region. Every year, more than 170 million passengers use the services of the rnv. The company is based in Mannheim, with further locations in Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen.

The rnv pays particular attention to the expansion of electric mobility on the road and the use of new technologies in public transport. Automated on-demand shuttles not only allow new services to be created, but also make existing transport more flexible and thus more efficient.
