From 10 to 12 May, the SHOW project had the opportunity to showcase its innovations and progress at the IT-TRANS Conference, which was held in Karlsruhe.

While SHOW adorned various spots in the conference agenda, a major highlight was the launch of demo activities in Karlsruhe. Led by SHOW partner and research institute FZI (The Forschungszentrum Informatik), the demo in Karlsruhe will demonstrate an automated shuttle (called EVAShuttle) serving as bridge between first and last mile transport.

The service is based on a retrofitted EasyMile shuttle with advanced driving behaviour functions to avoid e.g. parked vehicles. Among other things, the shuttle can transport parcels as well as people.

The demo launch was met with high interest: at the UITP booth, Dr. Florian Kuhnt, FZI Senior Expert for Autonomous Driving, together with SHOW Coordinator Dr. Henriette Cornet and UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani, presented the project to Baden-Württemberg’s Transport Minister Winfried Hermann, as well as to Karlsruhe Mayor Dr. Frank Mentrup, TRK Managing Director Jochen Ehlgötz and UITP President Khalid Alhogail.

Of course, conference visitors had the opportunity to try out the shuttle: they were able to test drive the #EVAShuttle in Karlsruhe and experience the function of the TAF-BW (Test Area Autonomous Driving Baden-Württemberg) live at the mobile control station.

SHOW also took a central stage in the Conference sessions. At the Parallel Session ‘Automated shared mobility: Getting our cities ready’, the SHOW project was dubbed as frontrunner on automated mobility. Speakers included Dr Alexander Viehl (FZI Research Center for Information Technology), Tanja Wiesenthal (ioki) and Dr. Henriette Cornet (UITP).
